“Osho is a profound Indian mystic. Although I never had the opportunity of his darshan, but I have read his books and discovered he had a very deep study, an extraordinary intellectual brilliance and such depth of interpretation is extremely rare today”,said Shri L. K. Advani, Union Home Minister, on Saturday at a scintillating Dance Ballet on the Haikus of Osho at a packed Kamani Auditorium.

Among the distinguished guests were Shri Lalit Mansingh, the Foreign Secretary; the Italian Ambassador, Mr Benedetto Amari; Jatin Das well-known painter; K. S. Radhakrishnan, noted sculptor; BJP Secretary Shri Ashwin Kumar and Dr Lovleen Thadani, poetess and film maker, who compered the event. On behalf of Osho World Foundation, the famous Tarot reader Ma Prem Usha presented Shri Advani with a momento of Osho’s Geeta Darshan book in bronze.

Dr Ileana Citaristi, an Italian dancer, who has learnt Odissi dance from Padamvibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra for over 20 years, enthralled the audience with her dance ballet performance based on the Haikus of Osho. A short Japanese poem, the Haiku is a meditative insight from the no-mind, not out of thought but from no thought. Shri Advani complimented Ileana for her dedication in learning Indian dance after leaving her country and staying in India for this purpose for over two decades.

The first item ‘Echo and Narcissus’ based on the Greek mythology set the meditative mood for the evening in the Chhau style which is basically a masculine dance derived from the martial exercises of Orissa’s tribals.

Another innovative item was ‘The Journey’ which stretched the parameters of the Chhau style into a modern interpretation as the Haikus were relayed in Osho’s voice and transformed into liquid movement by the dancer. In fact, Ileana became a living example for Osho’s observation on dance. Osho says when the dancer disappears and only the dance remains, it becomes total meditation and so it was. The audience experienced this in a profound manner expressed with resounding applause.

The climax for the evening was a dance-duet performed by Ileana with a young, agile and energetic dancer Nitin Sharma. Inspired by the ancient Chinese “Yin-Yang” philosophy “Images of Change” literally brought the house down. The two dancers were in perfect harmony and synchronicity moving as if they were two fishes in a circle. Starting off as if they were floating in water, they gracefully moved to touch the stars and become one with the universe.
